SPORTS AND RECREATION

Big-league sports action year-round. The National Football League (NFL) and the Browns returned to Cleveland with a brand new, 73,000-seat Browns Stadium in 1999. Jacobs Field, featuring the largest scoreboard in the United States, is home to baseball's Indians. The Q hosts Cavaliers basketball, Cleveland Barons hockey and more than 200 family events and concerts each year. There's also MISL soccer with the Cleveland Force.

Greater Cleveland features one of the largest park systems in the nation, with 14 Metroparks reservations, the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, more than 300 golf courses, abundant waterways and numerous festivals and events.

WATER ACTIVITIES

All year round, visitors and residents alike can enjoy the abundance of activities on the area's waterways; Lake Erie and the Cuyahoga River. With a population of 2.9 million residents (nearly 500,000 in the City of alone), the Greater Cleveland area is the nation's 14th largest consumer market. More than 5,000 people live downtown. It is currently the fastest growing downtown in the Midwest and the seventh fastest in the country.

QUALITY OF LIFE

According to recent reports, Cleveland and surrounding suburban areas are experiencing the lowest crime rates in decades. The latest survey released shows that property and violent crime rates have dropped more than 20 percent since 1993. The homicide rate the last two years is lower than it had been 35 years ago.

TRANSPORTATION

The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) features bus or rapid transit service to nearly every part of the city. Rail service runs daily from Hopkins International Airport to downtown's Tower City Center to surrounding communities and beyond. The Waterfront Line, RTA's newest addition, links the downtown business corridor to North Coast Harbor and the Flats Entertainment District. Busses serve the business and shopping areas as well as all other locations throughout the city and surrounding suburbs. Hopkins International Airport, one of the nation's key airports, services many numerous major carriers that schedule more than 680 direct and connecting flights throughout the U.S. and internationally. Hopkins International Airport is also a major hub for Continental Airlines. Cleveland Hopkins is currently in the midst of a massive $1.4 billion expansion program. Commuter air service to regional cities is available at Burke Lakefront Airport.

Amtrak has passenger train service departing to and arriving from many cities, including Chicago, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and New York City.

Cleveland is easily accessible from several major interstate highways; east-west I-80 (Ohio Turnpike) and I-90, and I-71 and I-77 from the south. I-271 and I-480 form bypasses around the city.
